LAZARUS
Mark 8:36 - For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (KJV)
Read: Luke 16:19-31
The Bible records the story of Lazarus, who fed on the leftovers of a rich man. One day, both Lazarus and the rich man died. Lazarus made it to heaven, while the other man went straight to hell. A key lesson of this story is not that wealth is sinful but that there is punishment for misusing God's blessings. There was no record that the wealthy man did anything wrong, but his sin was that he neglected the poor man at his gate and provided only for himself.
God is interested in people's motives for acquiring wealth and how they spend it. God gave us everything we have today, and we must use it to honour Him. One of the ways a person can honour God is by being a blessing to mankind. When we release our substances to put a smile on people's faces, we are indirectly doing it as unto God. The reward for this generosity is eternal life (Matthew 25:34–46).
On the other hand, just as the rich man's selfishness took him to hell, whoever is capable of assisting the needy but neglects them will be guilty of dishonouring God. For this reason, such a fellow will spend his days in everlasting torment. As seen in our Bible reading today, don't miss heaven by acquiring wealth and using it against God's desires. When we obey Godly principles and live holy lives, our names will be written in the Book of Life.
PRAYER
Hymn: When We All Get to Heaven – Eliza E. Hewitt (1898)
1. I repent of any form of selfishness and disregard for the poor. Father, please forgive me!
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Thou religious spirit (no conviction in Christ), I cast you out of my life and the Church.
2. Father, help me never to end my Christian journey in hell.
3. Spend quality time praying in the Spirit. The power of wisdom and discernment is coming upon you.
