THE "BUT"
2 Kings 5:1 - So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy. (NIV)
Read: 2 Kings 5:1–19
Let's conduct a quick English check. The boy was the best in class but failed the promotion exams. Note that the BUT suggested an entirely opposing fact to the student's initial attributes. This was the case with Naaman, a highly successful army commander God used to deliver his country. However, he had a condition (leprosy) that stained his wealth of honour. For this reason, Prophet Elisha gave Naaman instructions, which he eventually obeyed, as seen in today's Bible text. The man dipped himself in the River Jordan seven times, and his flesh became new.
The BUTs in a person's life are trademarks that bring shame and a premature end to existing testimonies. Unfortunately, many destinies have been wasted due to the BUT in their lives. You may even be a gospel minister or someone like Naaman, whom God used to help others, but you still struggle with reproach. If you have identified any negative patterns in your life, there is good news for you this day. The God who delivered Naaman is right there with you. As you obey His instructions to pray, anything robbing you of your joy and peace shall expire, in Jesus' name.
PRAYER
Hymn: Jesus Saves — Priscilla J. Owens (1882)
1. Every reproach of my life (mention) limiting my complete breakthrough, I wash you off with the blood of Jesus!
2. I decree that affliction shall never arise again in my life or in my family.
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Father, You are the glory and lifter of my head. Please elevate me until I become greater than nations.
2. Father, turn my story and groaning to glory.
3. Arrows of affliction fired into my life—backfire!
