These sound good! I've already planned out Marica Cooks Wednesday, but maybe next week. With a nice little cold pasta salad I think it would be a good Summer Supper.
From The Crisco Kitchen's New Recipes for Good Eating (1949)
"Serve hot with chili or tomato sauce."
FRIED DEVIL DOGS
Makes 6 to 8 servings
1 Tbsp melted Crisco, plus more for deep frying heated to 365˚ or until an inch cube of bread browns in 60 seconds
1 egg
½ C milk
¼ tsp paprika
½ tsp dry mustard
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
¾ C sifted flour
6 to 8 wieners
¼ C fine crumbs
Blend together 1 Tbsp melted Crisco, egg and milk. Mix paprika, dry mustard, baking powder and salt with flour and mix with milk mixture to make a batter. Dip wieners in crumbs, then into batter and fry in deep hot additional Crisco until brown. Drain on absorbent paper.
