Hi everyone! I'm back with another book review today
. So far this year I've read 16 books which is huge for me considering I now and then find it tough to read. A short while ago I posted a review for book one in the Sorcery and Society series (you can check that out HERE!) and now I'm gonna review book number two!! I really want to read more books by Molly Harper, I can't remember the last time I was this excited about an author, her style of writing is just so intriguing and easygoing, this for sure won't be the last book I read by her! Let's jump right into the review!
Summary
Days away from becoming completing her first year at Miss Castwell's Institute for the Magical Instruction of Young Ladies, Changeling-born Sarah Smith might just get away with posing as an upper-class Guardian girl named Cassandra Reed.
But strange visions of a Lightbourne destroyed by Miss Morton's revenant army keep Sarah from enjoying her achievement. Plus, the Mother Book, Sarah's one secret advantage and the ultimate entrée in Guardian society, suddenly stops revealing itself to her…putting her in a precarious position with the Guild. On top of all that, her former lady's maid left Miss Castwell's, and the new hire is, well, taking some getting used to.
If it weren't for her two best friends, Alicia McCray and Ivy Cowel, who will do anything to protect her secret, Sarah doesn't know if she'll make it another year. When the three girls take summer holiday with Alicia's family (chaperoned by an exacting and very disapproving Mrs. McCray), a relaxing vacation in Scotland is the last thing they'll find.
Mrs. Winter is thrilled that Sarah is spending time with the influential McCray family, but Sarah can't help but feel that her real purpose is to find other Changeling children like her, and free them to realize their own magic. Can she find genuine satisfaction in her accomplishments when she knows there are others like her out there who need her help? Will the three girls uncover the deeply-held secrets they're looking for in the mysterious mountains of Scotland? Will the Mother Book finally start talking to her again? And will Sarah come to understand the importance of her connection with Ivy and Alicia, and the true nature of her own power…before it's too late?

I didn't think it was possible to like this more than book one but Fledgling hit the ground running from the get-go! This is the first series I've enjoyed in a long time, it's nice finishing a book and knowing there's more to come when you really got into it! My questions from Changeling got answered in Fledgling and I also liked how snippets of the first book were explained briefly for anyone who may not have read it.
There was so much going on and there was always something to think about which was great. I had my suspicions about some of the characters and they came to light near the end which was an interesting discovery! The kindle version I was reading had a lot of spelling mistakes but that didn't ruin the read for me as I could figure out what had been meant.
I did not see the ending coming at all. I thought Sophies choices were a tad drastic in the last chapter but the pieces of the story fit together in the end. The relationship between her and Gavin progressed rapidly which took me by surprise. I found it random that the closing scene was left up in the air and the chaos hadn't fully been put to rest but I suppose it gives way to book number 3 where it should all get resolved. I really liked that there are discussion questions at the end of the book as it makes the reader think through all that went on and is a nice way to close things off.
And there we have it! Onto book number 3 I go
