My main audiobook this month was Swipe Up For More!: Inside the Unfiltered Lives of Influencers by Stephanie McNeal. Her initial idea was 'influencers matter' and she's right.
McNeal focuses on 3 influencers: 1 Utah mom influencer, 1 fashion (and later mommy) blogger, and 1 active/outdoorsy influencer. Because of the prevalence of the first 2 on socials, we didn't see as much of the third. I wanted more of her.
This scratches the surface of most of the areas of influencing that we're familiar with. McNeal does a good overview. The impact on the families, how much to share, children and privacy, how content is monetized, different kinds of freebies, branching into more stable areas of income.
There are huge areas that don't get touched on. What about animal influencers? What happens when the animal passes? What about making the switch from photo to video content? I'd love to find a deeper dive. The 2 influencers McNeal focuses on were burning out. They were ready to be done. Who is going to replace them? Bachelor contestants are starting to lose power to become instant influencers. Is the end nigh?
Swipe Up is an interesting and engaging look at a small part of this big story. Not all there is but a fun place to start. If anyone knows about other books on the subject, let me know. For this one, I'd recommend it. 4/5
