garlic & Naga red chilli pickle

It's been a long time, hasn't it? I don't remember the last time I sent out a newsletter to share some cool (in my books at least) stuff with you. And no, the New Year greeting does not count.

Things had been a little choppy on the personal front since November and as is always the case (I sound like a broken record here), the blog is the first one to be affected. I had been diagnosed with chikungunya-induced rheumatoid arthritis and that pain along with the infinite issues that long Covid brings with it made life a challenge. Baba suffered a brain stroke and that was a scary few days and sleepless nights for us (yes, he is doing much better now #touchwood). I took a tentative step back towards journalism by joining a local English daily to help out with the 'feature' section. And that was just 2022.

2023 brought with it a death - one that was not unexpected but the kind that shook the family and worked as a reality check. Thamma, my paternal grandmother, passed away at the grand old age of 104 (or so we've been able to count though back in the village, they say she was older than that) and we were caught in the frenzy of all the rituals that followed. And soon after, I jetted off to Nagaland for a trip with the bestie. Whew...

Now that I'm back in town and settling back in the mode, it's time for some recipes and travel tales I've brought with me from Nagaland, a catchup on the books I've read recently and of course, the hullabaloo on Instagram! So let's get cracking with this inspired-Garlic & Naga Red Chilli Pickle recipe that I've 'assumed' and recreated for the Bhaumick condiment selection.

Garlic & Naga Red Chilli Pickle
As an introvert, I tend to avoid stepping into spaces that are traditionally marked as belonging to the 'family' - for example the kitchen, the dining area, the family room, etc. But all of that respect for space went flying out of the window in the face of the Khonoma's bone-numbing cold that had my teeth clattering out unheard of tunes. A and I shuffled into the kitchen looking for something warm to ensure we stayed alive until dinner... and the taste of this garlic chilli pickle made me sit up, quite literally!)
