The Product
The guys at Violife sent me some Vegan cheese to try and to be honest, I have tried vegan cheese once but it was a while ago and I thought it was just ok.
I am always up for trying new things and getting my mind and thoughts changed by something.
The Cheeses
This was going to be fun trying these cheeses and seeing what they were like.
Original flavour Slices The classic flavour that gives you your cheesy hit in a variety of recipes, in a humble sandwich or grilled for ultimate comfort food.
So I was told by Violife that vegan cheese can take some time to get used to, but I am always up for trying new things and experiences.
Firstly let's start with the packaging.
Visually this looks like a very good quality package and is very similar to the other brands.
Now to the taste.
On its own, texture wise it was soft and smooth and then I was pleasantly surprised...the flavour was actually ok.
Yes, it didn't taste like normal cheese but this was very close and actually very nice....could I be converting? let's see how it sandwiches...
I made up a sandwich and this would be the deciding factor for me.
This cheese tastes great in sandwiches. I never thought I would say that about Vegan cheese but honestly, it's delicious.

Original flavour Grated Now you can enjoy your jacket potato or pasta with ready grated delicious Violife Original. A super easy convenient addition to any fridge.
Since I really liked the sliced version, I thought I would continue to play safe and try the grated.
I had a wee think about what could I use it in, then I thought let's make a nice cheese omelette.
You can't really go wrong with an omelette, very few ingredients then add the cheese and that's exactly what I did.
While this was making I have to admit it did actually smell good, and then it was done and time to taste.
Due to enjoying the slices, I knew this should be good.
This was very very good, tasted just like a normal cheesy omelette and I enjoyed it from start to finish.

Smokey Cheddar Flavour Slices Once tried, forever loved. You'll be eating it straight out of the pack before long! Try it on crackers with a glass of red wine (we think a hearty Rioja goes well) or grilled on your favourite vegan bread.
Another day another cheese to try, and this time it was the smokey cheddar one.
I opened the package and the aroma let's just say it was interesting for me.
I tried part of the slice and hmm, ok in all honestly it was not what I was expecting...this one I think is one I would need to try and get used to and try a few more times.
I thought let's make something and add it to it, so I made myself a tuna mayo baguette.
I took a bite and oh ok...
I could taste the original flavours and then the hint of the cheese which I have to admit added an extra layer of flavour to it.
I think this one for me is one I will need to try a few times, so I will update you on this once I have tried it more.
It is nice, just the flavour is something I will need to see if I can get used to.

Epic Mature cheddar flavour Block Perfect to eat straight from the pack, our new EPIC MATURE Cheddar flavour block is our best block ever - deliciously crumbly, with protein and vitamin B12. Truly Epic!
I liked the original one so I couldn't wait to try the epic one....was it as the name suggests epic?
I first tried it on its own and I have to admit I found it very similar to the original but that was a good thing as I really liked the original.
I then decided to try it on a cracker with some chutney, plus I have not had this combo in a while and I had a wee craving for it.
This was very nice the flavour came out nicely and worked well with the cracker and the chutney.
I have to admit I am getting more surprised that I am liking more vegan items than I thought I would, and this is now on par with the original flavour for me.

Violife Le Rond Camembert Flavour Our new VIOLIFE LE ROND with Camembert flavour is soft, round and creamy. Bake it in the oven or pop it for 1' in the microwave, pair it with dried fruits and crackers, pour a glass of wine and enjoy... and if you are looking for inspiration, check out our recipe leaflet inside the pack!
Last but not least was this one, and I honestly didn't know what to expect.
Firstly you get a wee guide that tells you how to bake it and I really liked that little touch.
I decided to follow one of the suggestions, and I drizzled it with oil and baked it.
I have to admit the smell was I will say interesting, but it was how it tasted I was really interested in.
Now baked it was time to taste.
Apart from the smell, this was amazing! it was smooth, creamy and had a nice flavour and another one I would get on my next shopping trip.

Overall
Firstly a big thanks to VioLife Food for the cheeses.
I honestly didn't expect to say this but this has opened my eyes, as I liked at least 3 of these and would get those 3 again.
If you were like me and thought Vegan cheeses wouldn't be good then think again, give these a try and honestly you may change your mind.
