THE RESTFUL EXPERIENCE
Psalms 23:1-3 (2) - He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside peaceful waters. (GW)
The green pastures in our text represent a restful experience because they are a location where sheep are refreshed. Christ is the great shepherd and the giver of rest, while you are the sheep. God loves you and will position you where you can always enjoy rest. The parable of the lost sheep in Luke 15:1-7 makes it clear that God cares intimately for each of His sheep, irrespective of their numbers. This was what David referred to when he said, "The LORD is my shepherd. I am never in need." (Psalms 23:1). Whatever your needs are, whether material, emotional, or marital, they will be taken care of in the realm of divine rest.
Today's Bible reading also shows that rest is a state of mind. David mentioned that God will ensure that you have rest because He lays you down and leads you beside the peaceful waters. No one has seen the Lord; therefore, this experience is a spiritual encounter that transforms into physical actions. For example, water symbolises the Holy Spirit. John 7:37-38 says:
"...Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.""
This means that, as you approach 2023, God will fill your thirsting soul and guide you through His Spirit that dwells within you. Therefore, you must walk in righteousness, perfect your trust in God, and remain sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Amidst any issues, He will direct your path in the direction of peace and a sound mind.

1. Father, help me abide as Your sheep to enjoy all that You have for me in 2023.
2. Father, let Your Spirit rest upon me afresh to fill my thirstiness always.
