For once, the cliches mean something.
Football is more than a game.
Whatever happens once the football starts,
it's hard to ignore
the stench of corruption,
human rights abuses
and homophobia
that contaminated the tournament
even before it started.

But the games still go on.
People condemn it,
but when did you last hear people say
"What is happening is terrible,
I will not be part of it, I will not go."
It seems that if you have enough money
you can get away with anything you like.
You can ignore people or treat them badly,
or do even worse things to them.
Some people may complain and protest,
but very little seems to change for the better.
To reverse something said by Albert Schweitzer.
My willing and hoping are optimistic,
but my knowledge is pessimistic.
And much more importantly,
think how little has been achieved
by the 27th meeting
of Climate Change Conference in Egypt.
Money may be given to help people
trying to survive natural disasters,
but the disasters will only get worse
unless other changes are made.
How little we learn from history.
