This is the first of a series of restaurant reviews in lieu of the regular weekly new recipe as I travel round Europe for the next few weeks.
Over the last few years a great many London pubs (public houses) have undergone a transformation from places where often poor quality beer was necked in industrial quantities (accompanied by salted peanuts if you were lucky) to comfortable establishment offering good beer and bistro style good food. Here we pictorially review 4 London pubs, two in the leafy and exclusive North London suburb of Hampstead, one in nearby Archway and the last in Marylebone in Central London. All are worth a visit, and booking is highly advisable even on weekdays. All offer broadly similar menus of traditional favourites such as roast beef, fish and chips as well as bistro style lighter and vegetarian options. All four pubs have excellent sections of beers and decent wine lists at affordable pricing.
