Dr. Vidya S. Banka, Retired President at Banka & Banka Medical Specialties, has been recognized by Marquis Who's Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in cardiology.
With 45 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Banka has been retired since 2013, having formerly excelled as an attending interventional cardiologist at Hahnemann University Hospital, a clinical professor of medicine at Drexel University, a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the president of Banka & Banka Medical Specialties immediately prior to the conclusion to his career. He had additionally found success in a number of clinical and academic positions with the Pennsylvania Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University, the Episcopal Heart Institute, the Espiscopal Hospital in Philadelphia, the Temple University School of Medicine, the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the Presbyterian-University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, among other institutions. Dr. Banka began his professional efforts as a registrar in cardiology at the Hospital of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India from 1968 to 1969.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Banka pursued an education at Punjab University, from which he earned an FSc in 1958, an MBBS in 1964 and an MD in 1967. Among his many fond memories over the years, he is particularly proud of his contributions to the Episcopal Heart Institute at Episcopal Hospital. Likewise, he is grateful of his status as a pioneer in the development of interventional cardiology procedures in the Philadelphia area, including the creation of the Banka tapered balloon. As a testament to his stellar endeavors, Dr. Banka has been presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Physicians of South Jersey, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Filipino Association of Philadelphia, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Cardiologists of Indian Origin, and an Award for 50 Years of Service from the Philadelphia County Medical Society.
