It was a dark frosty night when I made the 25 minute trip to Lincoln to join my friends at Black Door for dinner. Thankfully, the restaurant was warm and inviting.
I had checked out the menu online before going, and had an idea of what I would choose, but was hoping there was a "special" to change my mind. Sadly there wasn't, so I went with what I had chosen from the online menu which was identical to that in the restaurant (not so common in my experience).
I chose the Signature Burgher with fries and gravy (I kid you not. I confess I dunked a chip in the gravy to see what it tasted like. One was enough - certainly not to my taste.) There were 6 identical burghers delivered to the table. The other two dishes brought to the table were the venison dish and the pappardelle. Both were deemed to be excellent.
I found the patty of the burgher to be overcooked. Had it been served slightly pink it would have been much more edible. It was difficult to cut up which was a fairly good indication as to its toughness. The filling of the burgher was good although not a described in the menu. There was no pickled cucumber much to my delight.
Service: 4/5 Food: 3/5 Ambience: 3/5 Total 7/15
When everyone was leaving, Jane suggested a quick trip to The Grouse which is Lincoln's pub. We wandered in to a full pub with televisions blaring (the rugby had just ended), lots of people and a band playing.
Getting our drinks, we looked around for somewhere to sit and ended up at a table with two much younger women with whom we spent a very pleasant hour chatting (I struggle to hear what people are saying when there's a lot of noise, but hopefully I nodded when it was appropriate for me to do so).
