Hello and hey to the pumpkins that spice up my day a latte! How was your Halloween? I hope you had fun if you celebrate it! I had a great time but I did end up cutting my finger open while carving a pumpkin and that almost put an end to the festivities whilst celebrating them at the same time because it was scary so it fit in with the overall vibe! Not that I'd recommend doing it in the slightest . I won't go into details but it was no paper cut I'll tell you that much! I was only after telling myself when it almost happened that the shock would see to it that I'd be more careful and then I actually went and did it! Anyway, life goes on and I've still got all 10 fingers so YAY for that .
Next Tuesday is my birthday and I'm very excited!! I kind of feel like the year starts on from a birthday more so than counting it like 2021, 2022 (and then another part of me doesn't want to acknowledge age so there are contrasting emotions going on here ) but nonetheless some words of wisdom are in order! Of course I'm focusing on November because it's my birthmonth but if I'm feeling generous (and you do in fact end up enjoying this post) then I guess that motivation will get carried on with you for much longer than that! We all need a daily boost so let this be yours . I hope you find positivity within the following finds and be sure to hold onto favourites for a rainy day, something as simple as a saying can make all the difference. Onwards we go!
Whatever the current moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it.
Eckhart Tolle
Not as easy as it sounds I know but I think this is an interesting way of coping through certain things because if you accept and don't focus on what you can't do then you'll be more open to seeing what you can do or what's right in front of you. I like it!
Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right.
Henry Ford
Okay so I think () that this shows how much of an impact the mind can have on what we do because if you tell yourself you can't do something then you're going to believe it and vice versa. That's not to say thinking a particular way 100% of the time means you're going to be able to do things or not tho, just that if you truly want something and feel you can do it, believe you can and you'll stand more of a chance. What's that saying? Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will (I googled it for reference and it's by Suzy Kassem!), that kinda connects with this so take that as you will my fellow human bean!
Here's one I'll bet you've heard already!
It always seems impossible until it's done.
Nelson Mandela
It really does! I'm often in awe looking back thinking of how moments felt like they'd never end and yet they did .....then I catch myself and am like: stop looking back, live in the present or look to the future! And I think I should stop doing that because there's nothing wrong with a bit of nostalgia and I'll let it happen for things I deem as nice but never for the stuff I've accomplished which is STRANGE! If anything, remembering stuff you've achieved will show you that you can go forward with that strength and more so there's no wrong in reminiscing. Things can be tough to push through and time can feel at a standstill yet if all good things must come to an end, surely the difficult stuff must do too right? You'll get through whatever you feel is holding you back (if there is something). It could mean a change of mindset or something significant having to take place outside of you but it will happen. Belief is an important first step because then you have the power to take another and another and another! .
When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this: you haven't.
Thomas Edison
There's nothing like being told you're wrong when you actually need to hear it!
Act as if what you do makes a difference. IT DOES.
William James
Again we're back at it with our best buddy: self belief! I naturally do nice things because I'm an angel and all that jazz but I also do them because I want to make a difference for whoever is on the receiving end, be it others or myself! If I were to tell myself that I don't make a difference then that would obviously bring me down and have an impact on what I do because I'm my own worst self critic. I don't get as upset as I once would have done over unkind notions from other people because they're much more useful being used as fuel to keep going and it's easier to see that now. Whether you're driven by what others say you can or cannot do, you are the one that's actually got to push forward and make a go of things so unless there's constructive criticism or helpful support on their end, it's your actions you've got to look towards and work on! Basically, don't give up .
When you continuously compete with others you become bitter, but when you continuously compete with yourself you become better.
Marie Blanchard
Not entirely dissimilar to the point made above, it's important not to live for the wrong kind of people. Live for yourself and your loved ones, don't live to prove somebody wrong because even though it can be a great source of motivation they can't be one of the main driving forces as that pulls the attention away from what hard work you've done and potentially offers them credit for it (long-sentence-alert I know but I wanted to get my words out ). Constantly question the way you look at things if you feel your perspective is not serving you. It's easier said than done but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be attempted. You should look to yourself because you're moving at your own speed and in that way you'll get moments of living mindfully instead of a fight to forever prove something to somebody who doesn't really care. Don't waste your focus my little pumpkin it's to spice up my day a latte like I told you .
Life doesn't get easier or more forgiving; we get stronger and more resilient.
Dr. Steve Maraboli
Everyone will see this in their own way, like with all other forms of motivation, for me I can't help but think about my chronic pain. Although it is not getting easier or more forgiving and the journey towards a diagnosis that connects all the dots and findings beneath it feels neverending, I am not going to give in to it. I say that like it's a choice even though I don't feel like giving up is an option. I mean I have my bad days but the support of those around me is uplifting and turns tears of sadness and anger into joy over the silliest of things. Things I sometimes feel won't come true but I hope they will one day when I have answers and the blocks in place for being able to feel some sort of normality and do simple things that I won't take for granted. Even when I can't walk most days because the pain is unbearable or my head will not be lifted off of a pillow it hurts so bad I can't help but feel overwhelmed when I see the golden sun glow in around the edges of what's meant to be a blackout blind . I find it so easy to joke and it's not even a mask, it's who I am and the pain hasn't taken that away from me. I'll come out the other side of this and although the pain won't be gone, it will be at a more deal-with-able level because even tho I've got a high pain tolerance, that doesn't mean I want the aforementioned pain. Like we touched on above, it always seems impossible until it's done and whatever hardships were going through are guiding us towards where we are meant to be!
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
Winston Churchill
I love this because it's like 3 different things rolled up into one! I used to write about how when I achieved something I never really stopped to acknowledge it before going off on another voyage and that's what the start of this made me think of. My version of success wasn't final because I didn't allow it to be and for one reason or another I don't think anyone does because we're so often taught that always having a goal to move towards is the right path, often to our own detriment. IT IS important to have goals like that, I'm not saying it isn't but it does get confusing when you see success sold as the final destination and it's not . Life is a wheel that keeps on spinning until it stops, success is not final because you will get to where you want to be and when you arrive there you're going to see another shiny object in the distance that you want to follow. That's life and the failures it involves shape who you are for the better. In the long run what goes wrong teaches you something or means something and using that stuff builds you up for what is to come, whether you know it at the time or not.
Don't race for the finish line......enjoy the journey!
I don't know who said this one so let me know if you do! If we're being annoyingly smart here then we could take what we talked about above and say that you can't race towards a finish line because success isn't the final destination . Why rush things? Don't waste time thinking you'll be happy when you get somewhere, try to find joy in the now! Right now I'm surprisingly enjoying when the day gets darker earlier because I feel cozy and festive but yeah, we're not allowed to acknowledge Christmas until my birthday is over in this house!
