After several of not much food and liquids, we landed in Vancouver famished. Our first meal was at Tendon Kohaku near Robson Square and few minutes from where we were staying for our trip.

Tendon Kohaku (Ten is tempura in Japanese, and donburi is rice bowl in Japanese) is known for their crispy, yet light tempura on rice. This place was also recommended to us by friends.

Kohaku Tendon ($16.95) - rice, kohaku tendon sauce, 2 prawns, 1 chicken, 1 squid, 1 baby corn, 2 French beans, 1 shiitake mushroom, 1 kabocha pumpkin and 1 soft fried egg

Jeff got the Kohaku Tendon, which is one of the the restaurant's best seller. He enjoyed this very much and thought the tempura soft boiled egg was interesting.

Sashimi Aimori Tendon ($18.95) - rice, kohaku tendon sauce, 2 prawns, 1 chicken, 1 kabocha pumpkin, 2 French beans, kaisen sauce, tuna, salmon, scallop, ikura, sesame seeds, green onion, cucumber and wasabi

The tempura is light, and has a good amount of sauce. Also, there is a decent amount of rice that doesn't seem too much; whenever eat tendons, restaurants load on the rice and skimp on the sauce, so I rarely finish the rice (I don't eat much rice to begin with). I actually finished the entire bowl because the rice was also seasoned.

I think there are multiple locations in Vancouver. A little pricey, but it's quite quality tempura.
