Uncle Henry / Buck 110 / Schrade Old Timer - Three lock-backs that between them just about own the market . . .

Closed length / blade length / overall length / weight - all the "specs" are close enough there really is no difference - the differences come down to fit / finish and what appeals to YOU . . .

First one we look at is the Uncle Henry Papa Bear w/ Stagalon scales / blade is 7Cr17MoV . . .

The stagalon scales are really good looking with the high polish brass bolsters . . .

Looking in the "belly" - good alignment . . .

Back spine alignment real good . . .

Blade centering is good . . .

Second is the Buck 110 - ebony wood scales / blade is 420HC . . .

The ebony wood and high polish brass bolsters - looking good . . .

Looking in the belly - good alignment . . .

Back spine alignment is good . . .

Blade centering is good . . .

And third - Schrade Old Timer 7OT Cave Bear saw cut sales - blade is 7Cr17MoV . . .

The scales give you an old time look - and the brass bolsters have a "patina" finish to them to lend to the old fashioned look - I'm sure that they would polish out - if you were so inclined . . .

Looking in the belly the only "spot" is where the scale on the right meets the front bolster - which is the only spot in any of the three knives - Just a note here - Folks - understand that NONE of this stuff you see here - Toys, Guns, and Yo-Yo's or whatever else might end up on this blog is a sent product for T&E ( test and evaluation ) - or offered free if it gets reviewed - what you see here is NO different than if YOU ordered it and it magically appears on YOUR doorstep . . .

Back spine alignment is good . . .

Blade centering is good . . .

The sheaths are very similar . . .

Loops are sewn on - the Buck is sewn then folded over - doesn't ride quite as tight against you as the other two - the Buck is also riveted at the stress points . . .

Cost?? - the Uncle Henry is available at Amazon @ $26 bucks + / - . . . The Old Timer is available at Amazon @ $29 bucks + / - . . . The Buck is available at Amazon @ $60 bucks + / - . . . and any of these are available at most on-line retailers as well . . .

My favorite of the three? Straight looks is the Uncle Henry - with the "Stagalon" scales no question the best looker of the three - I might polish out the brass bolsters on the Old Timer just to see how it would change the looks of it / Ergonomics - a tie between the Uncle Henry and the Old Timer / with the "swell" to the scales and the texturing work you can get a pretty good hold on them - the Buck 110 is just straight sided scales - no texturing whatsoever - they can get slippery . . .

Let's talk about blade steel - all 3 are in the "400" family of stainless - edge retention is not the best but they are easy enough to sharpen - not so brittle that if you do something stupid with the blade that you really shouldn't you are less likely to break the tip off of one of them - it can be done quite easily - Don't ask how I know! - for a good look at blade steel and the differences - <<<GO HERE>>> check out the article at Blade Headquarters - if your just curious it will scratch the itch - and if you want to get lost in the subject - it's a decent starting point . . .

They are all good and will work for you - which one do YOU like??

That's all well and good Bruce - but which one do YOU carry??
