This fried cauliflower is super easy and delicious. You can serve it with any dipping sauce you like as it is a blank canvas of a fried appetizer or side dish. I especially like serving with a Thai Chili Sauce which is sweet as well as spicy.
It certainly is fall when all the cabbages and cruciferous vegetables are on sale. Except for kale, no kale in sight yet. Cauliflower has certainly been cheaper recently especially in comparison to broccoli, at least that has been the case where I live. If you don't want to be eating the same cauliflower dish for days or use it as a rice substitute, then one cauliflower can be a lot for two people. Usually I make two meals out of one cauliflower. Or a meal and a salad or appetizer. I could also buy smaller heads of cauliflower, but this system works for me.
Fried cauliflower is the perfect vehicle to transport as much Thai Chili Sauce into your mouth as possible whilst still technically eating vegetables. If that is not a great excuse to try this, then I don't know. You don't have to eat it with Thai chili sauce, you can also dip it in buffalo or barbecue sauce. Mojo rojo and mojo verde would add a little freshness or aioli a little garlicky creaminess. Sweet and sour sauce would also work really well. Raid your pantry and be creative. You can also use the fried cauliflower in a burrito or wrap with some salad, rice, veggies and sauce.
Bring some well salted water to a boil and blanch the cauliflower for 4-5 minutes (depending on the size of the florets) and drain them. They should have softened a little whilst retaining some bite and texture. Think al dente but cauliflower. Douse them in cold water to stop the cooking process and make them cool enough to handle.
Get the oil to 160°C and toss cauliflower florets in some flour. Shake off the excess and fry the cauliflower in batches until golden brown.
Serve while hot with any dipping sauce of your choice.
Well, there you have a delicious and easy recipe for fried cauliflower. It is fried so you don't want to eat it everyday, but it provides a nice change every now and then. It is still one of your five a day even when it is fried, right? Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this recipe and have a great day. Stay safe and wear a mask!
