The guys over at Monty Hitchcock's instagram sent me a wee message, asking if I would be interesting in coming along to see an art exhibition.
This sounded very interesting, and I like supporting anything in Glasgow so I accepted and added the date to my calendar.
About Monty Hitchcock
Monty is a award winning film production designer and is currently designing the 3rd series of Netflix series pennyworth. He was in Forbes magazine as one of the top 7 art exhibitions to see in London last year with his 1st solo show.
After 35 years as an art director in the film industry, events in Monty's life compelled him to begin expressing himself on canvas. Two years of self-exploration resulted in an extraordinary collection of large scale paintings of richly layered paints that pulsate on the canvas in a language which is, in parts, abstract, figurative and expressionistic
The Visit
Tonight Monty released his exhibition 'Unlocked' at Argyll Chambers, which will run from July 30 to August 1....don't worry if you missed this, as it will be returning soon so keep watching his Instagram page.
On entering to be honest I didn't know what to expect, but I was welcomed and given a drink.
The atmosphere was very nice, you could feel the buzz in the air and also there was some background music playing....plus it was a lovely evening so the room was nice and bright.
As I was sipping my drink I stood and looked around, I knew I would need to go up to each painting to appreciate it...then just as I was about to start walking I was introduced to Monty.
Monty's funky glasses, lovely personality and addictive smile instantly made me smile, after introductions Monty offered to tell me about his wonderful artwork.
Just listening to Monty speak, hearing his thought process on each piece this really made it extra special for me and gave me a better understanding of the art.
Monty really captivated me, and just listening to him I could get a feel of just how much passion he had for his art.
After listening to Monty I took a solo walk around the exhibition, and now with this insight it made me appreciate each piece that little bit more.
For me his painting titled "Cave" was the one that caught my eye, the colours used and textures just did it for me.
Overall this was a great night, I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I don't want to reveal too much in this post, as its something you have to see in person to appreciate.
I loved meeting Monty and I am already looking forward to a return visit to see what his future work will reveal.
If you can please do check this out, and as I said at the start following his Instagram to keep up to date on future events.
